This is my favorite subject. Once you have your website up and running there are many ways you can profit from the traffic it generates. My favorite way is to use content to generate traffic which in turn leads to clicks on my advertisement space. Your web site is always up which means visitors will always come which means you will always earn money from your visitors. I will present several ways you can earn money from your website.
Banner Ads

When visitors click on links in the banner advertisement the web master gets paid depending on how much the link is worth. Adsense is the most popular banner advertisement in the world. Publisher payments are high and the only requirement is that you must own a website. Google will index your site so the advertisements are related to your sites content. That means if you site is about race cars, then your advertisements will be able race cars too. This increases the chances of a visitor clicking on the link.
This type of advertisement is called Pay-Per-Click (PPC). There are many PPC advertisement companies online. Google just happened to be the most popular. Here is a good list of PPCs.

Affiliate Programs
Affiliate Programs enable you to profit from product purchases made on your website. You will not get paid for a visitor clicking on the link, you are only paid if the visitors makes a purchase. With Affiliate Programs you can make more money with less traffic compared to banner advertising. Affiliate programs enable an individual to sell products without having to stock anything. If you want to get an online store up and running quick, fast, and in a hurry this is the best way to do it. Your site will provide intermediary links to web sites that actually stock the product. For Example, here is a website that uses an affiliate program herbsr4u. When you click on a product link it will redirect you to the actual company thats selling the product and if you purchase a product herbsr4u admin will get paid.
Text Link Ads
Text Link Ads inserts advertising links straight into the content of your page. They can often be identified by dual underline marks and favor regular links. Text link ads usually accompanied by an advertisement pop up when the cursor is hovered over the link. Alot of controversy has been related to text link ads because they tend to annoy visitors because of the hover over advertisements.
Sell Advertising Space to Individuals
Selling advertising space to individuals is suited for very high traffic sites. This method also requires automation on the web masters end. The webmaster must develop their own script to accept electronic funds and manage links. You also must determine what advertisers will be willing to pay for such a link on your site. Factors to consider to determine how much your link is be worth worth be traffic, type of traffic, page rank, size of link, and link placement. Take a look at w3schools to get an example of this, the links are located on the right hand side of the page. They make alot of money from posting links themselves.
